Q&A: Would colleges accept this SAT score, GPA, etc?
Question by Am I Right?: Would colleges accept this SAT score, GPA, etc?
I’m a junior, and I currently have a 3.96 GPA. I took the Jan 24 SAT, and i’m expecting anywhere between a 1900-2200. This is the first time I have ever taken the real SAT (but I have taken practice tests).
I’m looking into University of Texas-Austin, Baylor, and Rice….and maybe some of the Ivy League Schools like Brown and Duke (I don’t know if Duke is Ivy League or not)
I’m also doing alot of volunteering outside of school, such as helping out at schools, and community events. I’m not in any athletics because I recently moved to the US…and I’m not the athletic type as well. I also signed up with the local food bank and the SPCA. Oh, and I’m also going to be starting violin lessons soon.
I’m aware that universities such as Rice and Duke expect SAT Subject Tests. I am planning on taking 3 of them (Bio E, Math I, and Chem). My mother also told me that you have a bit of an advantage if you’re a minority (I am).
So, do you think it’s possible if my choices of colleges would accept me? Would they mind if I don’t have much athletics (I was on the track team for a year, and that’s it)? Please tell me your thoughts. Thank you!!!
I also forgot to add that I might be inducted into the National Honor Society at my school this year, since I’m new. I’m also in a club where we help out the people with special needs at our school.
Im pretty sure my GPA is unweighted, and I’m East Indian.
And yes, I’m a Texas resident BUT I’m not in the top 10%
Because I used to be in Canada, I didnt really get a shot at AP. If the school I went to had AP, I would have been able to get a better GPA.
I know, so many additional details
Thanks for the answers so far ^^ Appreciate it!

For future reference, Duke is in the ACC athletic conference, not the Ivy.
In order to get into the Ivy League schools, Duke or Rice, you will need to get an SAT score on the high end of that range — or higher. Also, that 3.96 will have to be unweighted. If it is weighted, you will have to do better.
You will probably be good for Baylor, and good for UT — if you are a texas resident.
At most of those schools, being an underrepresented minority will help. Being an overrepresented minority (i.e., Asian) will probably hurt. It should have no effect at UT — as most public universities are prohibited from looking at race.

Should I accept this Fantasy Football Trade?
Question by Ian M: Should I accept this Fantasy Football Trade?
I need help deciding whether to accept this trade:
I lose:
Brett Favre
Rashard Mendenhall
Steve Smith (CAR)
I gain:
Philip Rivers
Brandon Jacobs
Roy Williams
The rest of my team which might sway the decision:
QB (start 1): Jay Cutler, Vince Young
RB (start 2): Chris Johnson, Marshawn Lynch, Jonathon Stewart
WR (start 3): Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, Steve Breaston, Austin Collie, Jericho Cotchery
TE (start 1): Dallas Clark, Zach Miller
Flex (start 1)
Obviously, Rivers is a huge upgrade at QB. Smith and Williams are essentially equal the way they’ve been playing this year, maybe even advantage to Williams. But Mendenhall I’m worried about losing. Obviously Johnson is my #1, but who can I fill in with #2? Lynch is a possibility or maybe Jacobs. And then my flex will always either go to a WR or TE.
What do you think? Should I accept?

You are losing to much in my opinion and getting crap in return. Rivers is the only good piece in the trade for you and the other 2 are garbage.
