So you’re making an attempt to build a woodworking masterpiece and the plans call for you to cut a board to four’ 11-3/8″. No problem….. Until you pick up the tape measure and understand that there is no such thing as a clear marking for 11-3/8″!!! Now you need to perceive easy methods to read a ruler. It’s actually a lot easier than it looks.

The very first thing we have to make clear is the symbols used in most woodworking plans. The image ‘ (apostrophe) represents feet. The ” (quote) symbol represents inches. So a plan calling for a board to be reduce to  4′ 11-3/8″ is asking for “4 toes eleven and three eighths inches”. Because this can be complicated most plans will name out this measurement only in inches; in this case 59-3/8″ or “fifty 9 and three eighths inches”. Now that we have lined the basics it’s back to understanding all of those little marks on the ruler. An ordinary tape measure (or ruler) in the United States is divided up into feet and inches. Every foot is divided into 12 inches. The problem starts with the subdivision of the inches. In each inch there are a number of lines of various length. The longer the size of those strains, the larger the unit of measurement.

For example. 1. The longest line within the inch is in the middle. This is the half-inch mark and there is solely one.

2. The subsequent shortest line is the 1/4″ (one quarter of an inch) inch mark and there are solely two of these.

3. The third shortest line is the 1/8″ (one eighth of an inch) mark and there are 4 of these.

4. The fourth shortest is the 1/16″ (one sixteenth of an inch) mark and there are eight of these.

5. Some rulers will go a step further, right down to 1/32″ but that is often extra exact that the majority woodworking cuts need to be. Click on on Image to Enlarge On the everyday ruler the basic (smallest) unit of measurement is 1/16″. If you happen to depend the distance between two inch marks (one inch) you will discover sixteen lines. This is because an inch is 16/16th of an inch long.

Because we like to express fractional numbers in the largest unit possible we call it one inch. So it follows that when you have 8 strains, or 8/16″ you might have a half-inch or ½”. And likewise, when you have 4 little strains, or 4/16″ you will have a quarter inch and so on. At first it may be slightly cumbersome to depend these traces however over time you will learn to recognize the lengths and the totally different units of measurements they represent. This usually begins with the ½” mark and progresses down the line. Over time a measurements like 59-3/8″ may be situated quickly.

OTHER MEASUREMENTS You might have observed that every 24″ on the tape measure are marked with a contrasting black background and every sixteen” is marked with a pink background. The marks are utilized by development employees for spacing wood studs in a wall or joists in a ground/roof. 16″ spacing is used mostly for load bearing partitions and 24″ for non-load bearing walls. The small black diamonds characterize a less common spacing scheme.

Question by lindsey: why can’t i stop talking about my ex?
he wasn’t even actually my boyfriend. we just use to “talk”/date. we were like a couple tho. but what actually happened was: we were always very mingly and dance together at clubs n stuff. flirty. we face very closely to eachother then at my birthday party, when we were like that, he pulled me forward to him then we kissed. we both were drunk. and then we were just basically together and made out a lot and dance together, etc etc then next day, went on a date, then slept over at his house(we didn’t do anything tho, i didn’t want to) and even next day morning we watch tv, spend time together, very closely and stuff but WE’RE NOT EVEN GOING OUT. then later we’re just taking a nap on his bed while we’re just very close and kiss like usual.
THEN HE WENT TO FLORIDA THEN AUSTIN so basically he was gone the whole next week. more than a week actually.
eh i didn’t like him… i dont feel anything for him.. could it be he dont feel anything for me as well?
when he was gone, he was very controlling and possessive with me. but i think he just asking to test my loyalty to him to use for his own advantages..

so then we were over. and the last time i saw him was still the time when i slept over. like we didn’t see each other after that. didn’t last long enough.
so now i can’t stop talking about him! even tho i ended it cuz i didn’t feel anything for him.. i just liked having him there in hope someday i’ll like him tho.
i need help from someone to tell me if he really liked me or wat? and tell me WHY CAN’T I STOP TALKING ABOUT HIM NOW even tho i don’t feel anything to the words coming out of my mouth..
i say i miss him but i dont mean it. he gets mad at me a lot, if there’s something that makes him jealous of something he would say something about it. i think he’s faking it tho. i want him around just to mess w/ him (emotionally) so i wouldn’t be bored but why am i like this now???

my questions are: why can’t i stop talking about if i dont think i ever liked him and he was just ..there.

and did he really like me and mean those words and wasn’t actually ACTING jealous n mad at me if i were with some other guy?

he lies a lot btw. he even lie about talking to this other girl before, when i was there when he kissed her previously. he lies and denies it.

You could make it into any of those! The only ones you may have to worry about is ones that are NOT city or state named colleges. (they tend to be harder to get into)

So let say a gang made up of Stone Cold, Rock and Bret Hart were waiting outside for u because ur gang started an arguement against them, and they want to settle this out back behing a bar in the dark streets of NY city!

Coming out the back Melina distarcts them by doing splits Randy kicks the puddle of water in Stone Colds Eye then Edge uses the trash can and hits him in the balls. Randy comes from behind and tries to RKO Bret but is seen and gets closelined him than turnes around and see Edge going for the spear but Bret dodges it and the Rock is about to go for the Rock Bottom but Melina hits him with the beer bottle from behind, Steve Austin wakes up from the trash can jit and is about to raise hell but RKO from behind by Randy.
Then my gang quickly open the fances with the dogs and everyone start to run, suddenly they see Shannon Morre and Jimmy Wang on the sidewalk drag there a$ $ es as a distarction just like the WWE uses them as jobbers than my gang wins the fight!

U CAN’T USE A MEMBER FROM THE OPPOSITE GANG! but u can use mines!

If u feel lazy to right the whole scenario just name the superstars and diva and come up with a name for them!

There is Three Reasons Why I THINK Nexus is going to win,THUS continuing The War:

Tonight we just saw that Main Event Match between Jericho and Edge vs Cena and Bret.Jericho and Edge were taken out by Nexus and they started to surround Bret and Cena.Here comes R-Truth and Morrison,still outnumbered.Jericho and Edge thinks about leaving until they ran back into the ring and helped team WWE.A Brawl started with Nexus running away and TEAM WWE STANDING TALL.Team WWE has the advantage going into the match.Every time someone has a advantage going into a PPV Match,that person who had the advantage LOSES.

Then we see that The Great Khali is gone from the match and the match is suppose to be a 7 on 7.John Cena,Jericho,Edge,Hart,Morrison,and Truth.That’s 6 on 7.You see The Miz saying that he will decide AT SUMMERSLAM.Does that sound a Little Strange that he will decide AT the PPV where they are suppose to be having the match?I think one team is going to be screwed and it’s not Team Nexus,but we won’t know till Sunday.

Does this Storyline seem familiar to the Invasion Storyline in 2001?Nexus invade and attack{WCW Attacks,forms allegiance to ECW},John Cena,who was attacked first by them and who is of course the Poster Boy of WWE and RAW,forms a Team{Vince McMahon,who is the Owner of WWF forms a Team},Chris Jericho and Cena starts to argue on who should be the Leader{Stone Cold and Kurt Angle argues on who should lead Team WWF},Jericho and Edge Quits{Austin Quits},TONGIHT,we saw Edge and Jericho reunite on Team WWE{Stone Cold comes back,Kicks Ass,and rejoins Team WWF}.Then comes down to Sunday and we don’t know what is going to Happen{Comes down to the One Night Only PPV Invasion,Main Event is Team WWF vs Team WCW/ECW}Someone might Screw Team WWE/RAW at SummerSlam {I Believe The Miz}and the War Continues and that person helps Team Nexus{Stone Cold screws Team WWF,Team WCW/ECW Wins,The War Continues,and Stone Cold is now part of Team WCW/ECW}.

Question by Kathryn M: What is the role of photography and videography in the study of marine biology?
I am part of a program at UT Austin where you formulate your own minor by bridging two disciplines that are of your interests. I am trying to bridge my major, marine biology, with photography/videography and how each brings advantages to the other (example: how the use of photography and videography allows marine biologists to make better scientific observations and distribute findings to the general public to further increase knowledge of marine biology and conservationists views). Another example would be the use of wildlife documentary film and how it helps in this endeavor. Are there any websites that might help me link these disciplines? Thanks!

I wanted to apply to Mcombs business but I don’t have cal. So i’m probably going apply to a liberal arts program, and If I get accepted then I’ll do an internal transfer after a semester.

I never took the ACT but i’m taking it in January just to see where i’m at. I will probably get roughly 25. I don’t think it matters though, because its a transfer.

I dont know much about howard, except that i heard it is the “black” harvard, so i assume it’s fairly tough to get into. However, I think with your gpa you would be a sure lock for A&M. I think you should def look into rice and UT transfer GPAs too because I can’t imagine you would be too far off from those schools. One issue that you need to discuss is that some schools only accept students with X number of credits, but usually that is around 24 which you have. With financial aid and help from the military, I’m sure paying for it won’t be a problem, so I wouldn’t worry too much. You will get into one or several of those schools and have a great education. I’m partial to A&M though. I visited there years ago for their politial science program and liked the school a lot. I ended up going to Purdue, but A&M was a pretty nice place. I didn’t care much for UT because it was in Austin, while College Station is a real nice college town, which is what I wanted. After you get accepted to your schools take a long time checking each one out and I’m sure you’ll find the one that is just right for you. Good luck

Question by combustion: Chances of getting into Stanford/UC schools and how can I IMPROVE?
Right, here’s what I have so far (please bear with me):
**GPA:
-Freshman: top 25%, Soph.: top 13%, Jun.: top 12% (Beg. of 2010); was always on 4.0 on a 5.0 scale; as of January 2010 I was 3.65 . However, my final rank may drop because this last semester I have have 3 or 4 B’s.
**ACADEMICS:
-in Health Science Academy and have taken Health field related courses with flying colours
-in the IB Programme (AP on steroids) with 7 IB classes
-always have taken pre-AP in Sophomore/freshman year
-Outstanding GPA award 3 years straight
**EXTRACURRICULAR:
-Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA): Officer in Junior year and soon to be Senior year; enrolled since Soph. year
-college persistence/college club. They help ME
-Volunteer club since soph. year. I don’t have any volunteer records from that, sadly
-Chess club; formed this year, am VP. I like chess but I don’t compete. I joined for the fun of it since most of my activities are health-related

brutally honest u wont get into UCB, LA or stanford with those test scores and gpa. even davis is a high reach. i dont know much about UTA but if its similar to those listed u really need to aim lower unless ur black or hispanic or get ur test scores up A LOT.

I go to a private school, lifes annoying people backtalk.. and well were taking Pre AP classes, which obviously means im in 8th grade. Other than that .. im thinking of going to public school: Westwood High School in Austin… See in our private school we dont have any extra cirrucular other than the core classes. barely any P-E, and lots of Competitions like History fair and science fair. Now, westwood highschool had PE,Extra Cirruculars like theathre and medical programs!!! , core classes ..but not the same environment .. ive never been to a public school ever in my life.. heard what they do there.. I need ur help Give the advantages and Disadvantages of both.. and tell me if u ever switched from private to public school?!!? Thank You

Maybe you should give public school a try. It helps prepare you to interact with people of all backgrounds which might help you to prepare for the type of life college is like. Also since the public schools has extra curricular activities this might be better as you need a lot of extra curricular activities to help you get into better colleges.
Private school however is a better learning environment in terms of learning. Its not as much students so teachers can focus on you more if this is the case in your school. It might be easier to do IB programs in private schools than regular SAT and ACT as i have found many private schools have better international exam programs.
Overall i think public schools are better if you are open to new things and can cope with learning well on your own without a teacher there to constantly guide you along the way,.

I applied to U Texas: Austin for the 2010 semester, and they offered me admission for the summer semester instead. Has this happened to anyone else?

Also, has anyone started college in the Summer semester, and not fall? What are the disadvantages and advantages? Tell me about your experiences. I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing going to UT Austin in June instead of going to other colleges in the fall.

All it means is that they are offering you the opportunity to start college 3 months early. What’s the rush? Start when the freshman class starts and learn it with all the other incoming people. Use this summer to do whatever it was you were planning to do. It is the end of your childhood and the beginning of your college years. Enjoy this last time when you do not have to think about all the issues that will confront you beginning when you enter college.
